During the pontificate of Paul V, Carlo Maderno created one of the most important works in the Basilica of St. Peter, the Chapel of the Confession built under the dome. It allowed access from the church to the sacellum of the Prince of the Apostles. The work was celebrated by the annual medal of the 13th year of pontificate.
