The massive codex of large dimensions includes a rich collection of shorter texts from a wide range of patristic authorities (Dionysius the Aeropagite, John Damascene, Clement of Alexandria, Basil the Great, Anastasius of Sinai, Gregory of Nyssa, Ps. Nonnus, Patriarch Germanus) with a predominant proportion of works by Maximus Confessor. The subjects of these various texts cover a broad realm of interests linked to the monastic and ascetic life, as well as other theological questions. Most of the codex was copied on oriental paper except for a few quires (ff. 1-4, 116-156, 191-197). The manuscript was completed in 1105 by the monk John Chaldes (f. 197r). Folios 1-4 were copied on recycled folios that derive from a ninth-century codex, copied in Sloping Ogival Majuscule, and contain fragments of the homilies of Gregory of Nazianzus. The text was identified over the course of work on this project (f. 3r).
