Gundisalvus Hispanus

1450-1511

Albinia de la Mare ha proposto l’identificazione di Gundisalvus Hispanus con Gonzalo Fernández de Heredia (1450-1511), studente di diritto canonico a Pisa nel 1473-1474, periodo nel quale probabilmente fu attivo come copista a Firenze, dove operò certamente tra il 1475-1476 e il 1478 per committenti illustri quali Lorenzo de’ Medici. Nel 1478 fu nominato vescovo di Barcellona e cessò la sua attività di calligrafo. Divenne poi arcivescovo di Tarragona nel 1480. Realizzò preziosi codici anche per Lorenzo de’ Medici e Mattia Corvino. Si annoverano circa 23 codici da lui sottoscritti o a lui attribuiti, tra i quali 5 Urbinati, ovvero Urb. lat. 34 (non firmato), Urb. lat. 54 (firmato «G.», f. 296v), Urb. lat. 263 («G. hispannus», f. 171v), Urb. lat. 280 («GunDisalvus hispanus. Scriptor indignus»), Urb. lat. 491 («G. hispanus», f. 163v).
