Urb.lat.52

An anonymous artist identified by Ada Labriola in Urb. lat. 32, containing the Sermones of St. John Chrysostom. In addition to this codex, she also suggests attributing Urb. lat. 39, 40, 64 and 127, and also Urb. lat. 9 to the Maestro’s catalog. All manuscripts datable to the period of Federico, however, were already attributed to Bartolomeo di Domenico di Guido by Annarosa Garzelli (Garzelli, I miniatori fiorentini di Federico, p. 125). The illuminator has undoubtedly been influenced by the style of the latter and knows the language of Francesco di Antonio del Chierico well. The close relationship between the two workshops was crucial for the construction of the figurative imagery of the humanistic manuscripts from the Florentine/Tuscan area. Influenced by the other workshop in such a way, the Maestro is able to assimilate it, while achieving his own characteristic style in an autonomous and well defined manner, as is evident, for example, in the antiporta (f. 1v) of Urb. lat. 52.
